ibm_svc
IBM Storage Monitoring

Introduction

br The CA Nimsoft ibm_svc probe handles all common monitoring and data collection tasks for IBM SAN Volume Controller. The probe collects and stores data and information from the monitored system at customizable intervals. The probe uses an SMI-S interface, CLI and SCP to collect comprehensive metrics about cluster, IOGroups, nodes, mdisk, vdisk, pool, and more. You can easily define alarms to be raised and propagated to the CA Nimsoft Alarm Console when specified thresholds are breached.

Installation Considerations

Installation follows the standard probe distribution process. When the probe is distributed to the target robot, the Nimsoft JRE package is included for the IBM SAN Volume Controller probe to use.

What's New:

  • The probe always generates QoS messages for the total capacity of the storage server.
  • Removed the following unsupported monitors from the probe interface. For more information, see the Upgrade Considerations section.
    • mDisk Monitors: Support case number 618921
      • %Free: QOS_STORAGE_MDISK__PERCENT_FREE_CAPACITY
      • %Used: QOS_STORAGE_MDISK__PERCENT_USED_CAPACITY
    • vDisk Monitors: Support case numbers 636181, 611310
      • %Free: QOS_STORAGE_VDISK__PERCENT_FREE_CAPACITY
      • %Used: QOS_STORAGE_VDISK__PERCENT_USED_CAPACITY
  • Updated the probe to generate monitoring information for the Storage Pool > Total Managed Space in Gigabytes (GB).
For more information, see ibm_svc Metrics.

Fixed Defect:

  • At every interval, the probe did not close the previous connection to the IBM SVC server before creating a new one. This caused the probe to intermittently stop data collection until manually restarted. Support case numbers 636181, 611310
  • The probe did not clear failed alarms for monitors calculating delta change in values. Support case number 618921
  • The probe did not validate the credentials and always connected to the storage server. Support case numbers 432922, 366728
  • The probe generated NULL values of operational status monitors of mDisks, vDisks, and nodes when using default templates.
  • The probe displayed incorrect QoS names for IOPS and throughput monitors for mDisks and vDisks.
