(Included in CA Unified Infrastructure Management 9.2.0)

  • Updated the probe version to be in sync with CA Unified Infrastructure Management 9.2.0.

Note: CA UIM 9.2.0 has adopted OpenJDK 8u212 instead of Oracle JDK. Because of this change, CA UIM 9 SP1 (9.1.0) that was using Oracle JDK (JRE) 8u212 is no longer available and has been removed from the Support site. All the functionality that was included in 9.1.0 is now released as part of CA UIM 9.2.0. Consequently, all references to the 9.1.0 release and the probe version 9.10 (released with it) have also been removed from this probe documentation. We recommend that you move to this version 9.20 of this probe, as the previous version 9.10 is no longer available now. For more information about the OpenJDK usage in CA UIM, see Adopting OpenJDK.

  • Identifies devices running CA SystemEDGE.
  • A new <snmp>/<models> configuration section allows custom mapping from a SNMP sysObjectID to device model and roles.
  • Fixed inconsistent SNMPv3 discovery results when there are two or more SNMPv3 profiles being applied to the same IP address with the same user name but different settings.

16.11.2015 • Addressed missing network interface information on some device models when they were queried with SNMP v2/v3 credentials.
• Fixed issue where devices were ignored if the discovery IP address is not included in the IP address table.
• Fixed a device duplication issue when the discovery_agent and vmware probes discover the same virtual machine by no longer publishing the VirtualID (Salesforce 70003659 and 70003745).
• Fixed issue where devices were incorrectly merged based on an all zeroes MAC address (00-00-00-00-00-00).

31.03.2015 • Discovery Server has been enhanced to include callbacks that allow you to cleanly delete devices from both the UIM and UDM tables in the UIM database. With the introduction of UDM, manual deletion of devices using SQL commands was prohibited as it can cause the UDM tables to be out of sync with the rest of the UIM database. Using the callbacks introduced in this release provides you with a mechanism to delete devices without causing syncing issues. See Remove Master Devices for information about using these callbacks. • Discovery Server has been enhanced to work in conjunction with the vmware probe to provide partial graph publishing. To enable this feature, additional configuration in the vmware probe is necessary. See Enable Partial Graph Publishing for Discovery Server Version for more information about enabling partial graph publishing.

29.09.2014 • Discovery Agent and Discovery Wizard are enhanced to support seed device discovery. When entering Ranges in the Discovery Wizard, you can specify information about one or more"seed" devices. The discovery agent can automatically discover the local subnets that it collects from the seed devices. In addition, the discovery agent can find other devices connected to the seed devices to accelerate the discovery of known devices on the network.

• Discovery Agent and USM are enhanced to display more detailed agent status during discovery.

• Enabled integration with CA Capacity Management by providing more detailed processor attributes for host systems when the discovery agent is configured for WMI, SSH, and/or SNMP discovery. Note that WMI and SSH discovery will provide more detailed processor information than SNMP. The new host system attributes published by the discovery agent are: ProcessorDescription, NumberOfPhysicalProcessors, NumberOfProcessorCores, NumberOfLogicalProcessors

Included in NMS 7.60

  • Fixed: Under some networking configurations on Unix systems (particularly Solaris), the discovery agent encountered an error expecting certain information. This caused the discovery agent to terminate before all results were published. The Agent will now gather the information as best it can and continue discovering and publishing.

28.03.2014

Discovery Agent included in the NMS 7.50 distribution.

  • Discovery Agent has been enhanced to allow for discovery of SNMP Devices on non-default port.
  • Callback has been added to the discovery_server probe to allow all devices from an agent to be deleted from the database.
  • Fixed a defect that sometimes caused Discovery_agent to hang during ICMP Discovery.

  • Service discovery deactivated by default.
  • Additions to support Discovery Wizard (in USM).
  • 6.50
    19.12.2012 Included in NMS 6.2.
Replaced underlying technology for performing WMI queries. Can now connect directly to Windows machines running Vista or later. Eliminated dependency on RSP probe. WMI discovery queries can only be performed when the Discovery Agent runs on a Windows machine.
Improved the collection of the Fully Qualified Domain (Host) Name (FQDN). Adjusted various protocol queries to collect better FQDN data.
Improved support for the Automatic Deployment Engine (ADE).
Enhanced the Discovery Agent GUI. Improved the status display. Status now displays during a discovery run instead of just waiting until a run completes. The UI provides messages when the Discovery Agent is not running or is waiting to receiving its configuration from the Discovery Server. Improved status counts. Cleaned up various unused or inaccurate UI components. Sorted protocols alphabetically.
Removed unused or unneeded protocols from the Discovery Agent.
    Improved logging levels and messages.
    3.50
30.09.2012 Included in NMS 6.1 To better support the Automatic Deployment Engine (ADE) and UMP, enhance discovery to get and save processor architecture (32/64-bit) and Linux distribution information.
Updated to use new version of Nimsoft SDK to better handle running on a system with multiple IP addresses.
The computers found by LDAP protocol now have correct OS type and DNS name.
Discovery_agent is now able to use SNMP V3 credentials.
